Tech Coloproctol —22DOI The purpose of this report plasty or not amenable to sphincter repair. However, ais to evaluate the results of anal encirclement with a simple proper device needs to be designed.
Seventeen selected patients mean age, 74 years —14 with rectal prolapse and 3 with persisting anal incontinence after previous operations—underwent high anal encirclement with polypropylene mesh. There was no operative mortality. Prolapse recurred in 2 15 percent of the 13 patients followed up for 6 months or more mean, 3.
Background: Rectal prolapse is a chronic disease that commonly affects elderly women in which the rectum partially or fully intussuscepts and comes out through anal canal. Management of this condition is challenging and there are different surgical approaches to this disease. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare different surgical treatment modalities in the treatment of rectal prolapse.
We report a case of a year-old male who presented to our emergency room with debilitating, complete, irreducible, edematous rectal prolapse along with retention of urine. Due to marked edema and inflammation, the reduction was unsuccessful under general anesthesia; hence a conservative approach was considered. With local sugar application for a week, the edema was reduced and via manual digital maneuver, the prolapse was reduced with anal encirclement the day after to maintain the reduction.
Anal incontinence is of potential clinical interest and significance. Comprehensive knowledge of anal clinical anatomy and function is essential to understand pathophysiological processes that lead to sphincter malfunction. We review anatomy, physiology and surgical pathology of the anal sphincter.
Transabdominal procedures 1. There is a dearth of high-quality data regarding the optimum treatment method. A comprehensive review, inof randomized trials found a few patterns: The method of fixation during rectopexy did not change outcome.
Soft-tissue reconstruction using biologic tissue matrix: Where do we stand? View all 12 Articles. Introduction: The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the use of biological materials in the augmentation of the anal sphincter either as part of an overlapping sphincter repair OSR or anal bulking procedure. Results: patients underwent anal bulking with a biological material.
Surgical treatment of rectal prolapse: experience and late results with 51 patients. E-mail: sobrado iconet. The "best" surgical technique for the management of complete rectal prolapse remains unknown. Due to its low incidence, it is very difficult to achieve a representative number of cases, and there are no large prospective randomized trials to attest to the superiority of one operation over another.
